Gilding:

The oldest jewelry technique is gilding jewelry.
In ancient times, gilding of metals was carried out by masters in a cold, hot way (on fire) and in a liquid state. The oldest technique is cold gilding, in which a silver or bronze base was studded with

a thin gold leaf.
Gilding on fire - Attic technique (used in the era of antiquity). Mercury and gold were applied to the product in a thin layer and fired. Mercury evaporated, and gold firmly connected to the base. this was a very harmful production due to mercury. In the 19th century, they switched to galvanic gilding and silvering. Galvanization is a modern method of coating metals. Galvanization is the deposition of one metal on another in a galvanic bath, by deposition of it from aqueous solutions of salts - under the influence of electric current, or without it.
